Sun Setting On Our Field, by Rainer
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
How
Did the rose
Ever open its heart
And give this world
All its
Beauty?
It felt the encouragement of light
Against its
Being,
Otherwise,
We all remain
Too
Frightened
Bloom Day, June 15, 2009
But first, the front yard in January with an arc of raspberry canes and hay bales...
...and today with an inner arc of peas and sunflowers, potatoes, watermelons, plum trees, willows, a poplar, strawberries, wild rose, ecium--the 15 foot tall purple cone plants, though babies now-- in an outer arc, and a birdbath in the middle with Rainer and Frida. The berm is hay, branches, and tall grasses layered. We hope to build it up as high as possible and grow willow or something inside the constantly composting wall. Fun!
Aww, poppy love.
"Some say love, it is the blah blah, that in the spring, becomes the Frida Rose...."
Out of a field of repeats, this is the only one of its kind. A pea or bean flower maybe.
Comfrey
This dandelion was taller than her.
This patch of mallow, calendula and the white ones makes doing dishes more pleasant. It is also crammed with foxglove, yarrow, french lavender, lilac, two willow trees, a carnivorous pitcher plant, succulents, comfrey, purple/yellow pansy and another pink/purple flowering cluster on the other side. Note the kids in the corner by the climbing tree.
They have soft, fuzzy stems and leaves, neon-bright flowers. Whatever they are we love 'em.
The bees go crazy for borage!
